U.S. Congressman David Schweikert
This Week In Review

The United States economy hit a record breaking high. As reported, the U.S. is now the world's most competitive economy. This is great news for businesses and workers!

As the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act soon marks it's first year as law, we can reflect on each month since it was passed, and the positive climb our economy has taken. This news shows our economy is at an all time high. Most recently the House passed a Tax Reform 2.0 package that will continue to put our economy ahead of others as it will lock in the middle-class and small business tax cuts.

Let's take a moment to celebrate the good news!

Pima Medical Institute Site Visit

My team and I spent time touring Pima Medical Institute (PMI) in Phoenix. During the visit we discussed students’ medical education and training in the allied health field, along with discussing the benefits of being an employee-owned company.

Thank you to Pima’s staff for giving us a tour of the Phoenix campus. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting and learning more about the training and skills you are teaching to students.

Constituent Spotlight

My team had a very special visit with Mr. Elson and his wife. Mr. Elson is a Navy SEAL Veteran who came to us after a long process of asking the VA to provide his disability benefits, and my team aided him across the finish line! It was an honor to meet Mr. Elson and his wife and thank him for his service to our country.

Legislation Highlight:

The JOBS for Success Act
, H.R. 5861, helps to support a partnership between the local workforce and the families who are eager to move from welfare into jobs. This bill will focus on four key changes:

- Renames the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program to Jobs and Opportunity with Benefits and Services (JOBS).

- Ensures no one gets ignored or is left on the sidelines, there are no "lost causes" or families that are "too difficult".

- Focuses on real outcomes - getting and keeping a job.

- Helps poor families, those that need these funds the most.

- Uses funds to help individuals find work by requiring at least 25% of funds go towards core activities to support individuals and families.
